Hi there, i know there are several topics on this already, but i wondered how i'd go about getting and starting up with miriani? loads of my friends are playing it and i just wondered how to get oing. any help would be appreciated.
In general, one plays games like Miriani with a moo or telnet client. You can use the generic Windows telnet client if you wish. There is one called Monkeyterm that is popular, and a sound pack that goes with it.
Once you've decided which client to use, connect it to toastsoft.net, port 1234. To create a new account, type "new" as your username, hit enter, and follow the prompts for creating account and your first character. As your new character, you should, first, go to an atm on any landing pad, and borrow enough to get your first ship (the one-person cargo hauler), or have a friend in the game get you the credits. I joined a friend on a few debris salvage missions and invested my earnings in my first ship.

ok, is there a way to a: turn off all the chatter when your trying to read something, like the help files?and, is there a way to keep it from scrolling off the screen?i'm using the good ol' windows xp telnet..woohoo!

to turn off alliance, and general comms, simply
turn comm
(comm is communicator shortened.)
and no there's no way to keep it from scrolling away, dunno how telnet does with this, but with monkeyterm, there are scroll up and down buttons so you can look through backlog
perhaps you need to type "site"... this disables all the visual stuff. maybe that will help. Anything else you want to know, well, you know how to find me. For anyone else I'm Alexandra Evans... I don't know everything yet but I can certainly try to help.

typing sight fixes the starmap, but not sure what else it really does.

Typing sight makes combat missions easier, too. When you gotta repair and stuff.
ok the error your getting. all ya gotta do is reinstall, the scripts, the monkylib.exe file if u have it. If u don't just reinstall monkey, and that should fix it. I'm also always able to help out newbies, find me as blake madison, or waffles.

If you have problems with things scrolling off your screen in Miriani, you might want to check out HELP @MORE in the game. When enabled, the MOO will take care of buffering things for you until you type @more to receive the next burst of output.

I tried Miriani a while ago and I don't like it. it is boring. I have much more exciting things to do than play Miriani.
I know many of you will not agree with me. One day, somebody missed dinner because they were busy playing Miriani. That is just stupid, i think. I would never miss dinner because of a game. i like to eat.

I don't think so, but that would be awesome if their was. I need to get on more offten, but since I don't have sounds, because I am using a mac right now, its a little hard to keep up with it.
i admit im not that great, but every few hours after i get a char and start de bris salvage and mail delivery, etc, the small stuff for now, I seem to come across some trigger happy person that likes to blow up new pilots or fairly new, i am on about my 6th name/ship..now tell me, is something telling me to call it quits?lol

eh, about the blowing up people, I wish some higher hosty power would realize, hello, the trigger happy kings and their men are gonna make the player base dissatisfied and eventually, it'll start dropping.
About missing dinner, when we took off in the 15-person ships after the praelor that one time, I was tempted to ignore my grandma's shouts for dinner and kill bugs.

yeah, did that myself with the relay station. i skipped a meal so i could be in the middle of it. david, you never gave the game a chance. sure it's boring at first until you get enough points and credits, but then it gets really fun. just like any game. what fun is a game where you have everything already.
I agree with both cala and rat. And emo boy, don't just delete just because your ship gets blown up. Keep trying. Lets see, I've lost an expeditioner, fully upgraded cept for solar pannels, my first specialty ship got stolen, but now I have death note, i lost my destroyer for a time but I was able to get it back, I lost a voyager, I've lost 3 or 4 fighters, u just gotta keep going at it. If u ever need help I seriously suggest talking to blake wor waffles as people know him, calandria or moy, and some other random people like mike rat. We all can usualy help ya out with stuff.
i've lost both a helio and antag to a certain person not to mention that most of the rest of my fleet was given away by someone i thought was a friend.
Same here, that's how i lost my destoryer, expeditioner and cruiser. That's y i don't give out keys to anyone no matter who they are.
I say let the game die, it will eventually anyways because the hosts dont control the chaos
yes, that's true. the unorderly are ruining the whole game as it is
well its not just the unorderly on that game its the hosts too, they dont care to admit that they may eventually lose folks because of the nonsense they allow. Not to meation the hosts that show up when you go to assist about a character that you know is a host as well, they show up in their hostly form and tell you that the character broke no rules. I'm sick of that

Hey guys, what do ya think is going on with the storyline? Heres what we got, the CTN taking down the coms, and the praelor just being annoying. Any thoughts on what's gonna hapen next? Albori and Maragual, and the others r good for throwing twists at us though.

hi has anybody tried this game with VIP mud? what's it like with it. i haven't actually played the game yet but it looks interesting enough.
It should work with VIP just like it does with monkey, thought I don't think theirs been a sound pack devoloped yet.
i've got monkey term, when i open it up it says document interface but i don't no where to go to connect with it it won't seem to read i'm confused, mind you only looked at it about 3 times i don't no which option to chose at th oment, however that might be because the last time was at 2 in the morning
I don't think their capture a player, because all that players gotta do is switch over to msn or whatever, open up an IM window, and go "hey, heres what's going on."
As for the Monkey term window, go to the file menu, and hit open. Navigate your way to the miriani folder, inside your monkeyterm directory, and hit enter on the "miriani.xml". That should boot ya up with all of us peoples.
yeah, keep opening stuff that says miriani, until happy music plays. After that, when you connect to monkeyterm, it'll bring up a list of sessions. If you have Kai's sound pack, that is, the miriani 6 pack, all you have to do, after your first time logging in and all, is hit m, and enter.
oh, if you play, I'd suggest reading the help files, and policies. or asking one of us about it. Wouldn't wanna piss off any hosts, or be ooc over chatter...

hi can anybody give me any tips on trading? usually am pretty good at trading but right now i'm hopping around looking for a trade route and am really not having much luck. or how i can obtain a good living?
it's supply and demand, the trade routs change. go to a center and type lookup.
trading sucks. try salvaging, easy combat missions, and planetary mining to start off with.
Miriani back up? Last time i tried, it said it was down. I haven't logged in as much as i used to, its gonna be a bit harder now because of schoool and wrestling. Also, I've found a new mud called project bob, which is awesome. One final thing, I'm trying out VIP Mud, does anyone know how I can get a sound pack for Miriani on it?
It was down from aug 27 till sept 2 because of coding. there are some things in ooc/general about soundpacks with VIP. go have a read.
is there a way to find out where a spacific place is? i'm using the lookup command in the trading centre to see where i can sell stuff but how can i find where i want to go?
use your destination finder with the name of the planet, if it doesn't already tell you the sector

Now that SC will be returning, I don't know what mud I'll be spending the most time on that one or miriani. Decisions, decisions.

first, what operating system are you using, second, what files do you have? you need monkey term, and monkeylib.exe and a soundpack, mtdialogue might be useful as well.
I am using windows vista, and I have the monkey term client downloaded. I have the sound pack, and I am not sure about that xml file you mentioned.

You do not need the dialog patch. It does not do anthing, but stop it from saying dialog when their is a blank line. Wow, really useful.

yeah, i'm tempted to say if you don't like miriani then stop moaning about it, but i'm not going too.
as for the comment about new worlds being boring, some of the elements in that game really frustrated me, but there were also some well thought out ideas. i'll admit i never really got to grips with what it was about, but then maybe that's because i spent more time on miriani then i did new worlds.
as for miriani, there are some players that really take it seriously, and those who just don't really care how they act. i love that game, probably always will enjoy it.
also, i don't think it's about how the players act, it's how the game is presented, how the diffrent parts of the story fit in the game, and how much effert is put in to keep the game interesting. i think miriani's got all that.

All I say is,yeah?you don't like a game?cool.O you like this game?well good.As I said,every one who plays any game looks for different things in different games.
The problem with miriani in my view is this. While the stories are well thought out and the plots are thought out as well, alot of the time people don't stick to them or because of an outcome that has happened because of them people start complaining about it. Miriani is supposed to be a roleplaying environment but the problem is because the going ooc has been so rampant for so long now that the hosts are trying to enforce the roleplaying policies more so now, it makes it harder for those people to roleplay. also, if there isn't something constantly going on, people don't see the need to roleplay as much because it's just everyday situations like missions and what not, where private conversations in ships don't matter as much unless the owner of the ship enforces IC roleplaying.
I still see that as no need to criticize it however, no one went on your thread about new worlds and talked about how horrible new worlds was or is, even if they wanted to, some people really enjoy miriani, just like you might enjoy new worlds.
I don't like new worlds, it confused the fuck out of me.
But Miriani does lack alot where in characterness is concerned. I'm guilty of it too sometimes, though I really do try and be IC. But when people around you are going lol, rofl, lag, oh my God lag, it's hard to keep IC. and you can't tell them to fuck off and stay IC without looking like a sanctamonious prick. I think if more people really tried to stay in char, and keep the barely IC chatter to a minimum, it might be better. But you have all kinds of inane conversations going on on chatter that make me feel like a 19 year old playing a mud, not a 23 year old pilot.

out of respect, i keep most of what i think of new worlds to myself. sure there were some really good ideas, but it did get boring after the first few days. i remember you kept having to eat and drink to be able to gain energy, reminded me a bit of final fantasy and those types of games.
i think as far as the i c goes in miriani, i've been there for a while now and don't really notice it. i'm more interested in the plots than i am how the people react to them.
Also you can only move so fast in New Worlds, so if you log in during a coffee break or whatever, you can't just walk across town real quick, drop money into the bank, then leave north and go into the woods again. This is not a criticism, however, as it is apparently part of the game's design. Also New Worlds seems to have a really good layout, and good descriptions. Granted it was my first mud, but I find Valhalla harder in that instance. I still think any fiction writer - doesn't matter the genre - would really get a lot out of New Worlds even if they haven't done muds before because of all the interchanges. I will say, I can't help feeling bad for other players who invested a ton of goods into my character, and mine having worked out a failure - I could never complete the quest I was on even though I reread the logs from my mud client and kept copious notes. All that armor and stuff had to cost them a lot since it's hard to get ... If you're a fiction writer though you oughta consider it.
Time keeper, in FF you don't have to eat and drink to regain energy. Just saying, as I played about 8 of the games. Not saying I beat them, but in all of them you don't have to eat and drink to regain anything but maybe HP and MP.

I don't know what other clients work on seven, and having never used window eyes, I don't know how that works. But try vip

You can use musclient, and get the window eyes set files from randylaptop.

Just wanted to post here, I love this game. I've tried a lot of moos, and this one's my favorite by far. Just started out and am already hooked. The first day I played, at least 4 or 5 people came up to me and offered help and showed me around.
The hosts have also been awesome.

how did you lose your key i've lost a ship cause the key woodn't tell me ware it was at but i've never lost a key yet

Oh, if your key does not tell you where your ship is, you probly have it on a planet where there is no flight scanner.
Currently one of my ships is no where to bee found, shoot I have not seen it in about 2 maybe 3 months.
or it's in a docking bay or in a gorage you don't have access to or something...

I'm getting kind of sick of that game, to be honest. I mean it's cool and it is fun to rp but sometimes people take it way too far. And yeah I know it is part of the game, but still.. I feel I need a brake from it for a while.
